While doing some research on real estate markets throughout the country, we came across an astonishing statistic published by Zillow: “The total value of private residential real estate in the U.S. grew by a record $6.9 trillion in 2021, to $43.2 trillion.”
The typical U.S. home rose in value by 19.6% in 2021. In some of Maine’s most popular counties, we’ve seen large increases in home values, including 16.7% in York County, 17.9% in Androscoggin County, 17.9% in Cumberland County, and a whopping 38.0% in Sagadahoc County. And in some towns and cities, the rate was even higher — Portland’s home values went up 26%.
